Dale, you read the book already? If so, I had some questions. Is it an actual tactical battle history, or a collection of articles? Also, how are the maps? Is there any other book you would compare it to? Thanks.

Yes - I have been involved with securing the rights from Baumann...and transferring them on to Fedorowicz. It is essentially a collection of first-person accounts from various German veterans who served in Fortress Posen put together by the veterans of Posen and organized and compiled by Baumann. The book covers the battle from the different sectors and merges the accounts, incorporating accounts from Soviet and Polish perspectives as well. Baumann did a great job with researching the history and comparing the accounts and perspectives and putting it all together with solid research. It is an easy read - flows well - and is easy to follow. The maps are excellent - I have not seen the finished product yet - but there are plenty of maps that allow you to follow all the action and accounts of the action in street by street detail. Not sure of a comparison - I especially like the first-person accounts - and this one has plenty of that coupled with an overview of the military situation.
Hope that helps...
