Post by krichter33 »

Helion is publishing the following two volume set on the III SS Panzerkorps, "Himmler's Favourite - The Combat History of the III SS Panzerkorps," by Westberg, Mansson, and Brenden.

Does anyone with any knowledge of these books know if they are primarily picture books, or if they are a detailed combat history similar to Tieke's book? Thanks.

I have a difficult time taking a book with such a bizarre and sensationalist title very seriously.

Lennart Westberg,Martin Mansson, and Geir Brenden are well known researchers of the Battles of III SS Panzer Korps and their battles on the Eastern Front and two of them authored the excellent SS Panzer Aufklarungs Abt 11 Nordland , i expect that this new book despite the title will enhance Tieke's work as they have researched many primary sources and intereviwed many veterans from the Nordic countries and Baltic States , i'm very much looking forward to this one,

regards

I'm looking forward to it too, and will buy it. But as a fan of Tieke's work, I'm still just curious how much text battle history is there. I prefer histories with good maps to photo books, and I hope this is more of the latter.

Though I have not obviously seen the book, I would be inclined to believe that the book will be a mixture of text and illustrations like Brenden's previous books. I.e. not pure text books like Tieke, but in likelihood with much wider range of sources as I believe Tieke did not speak Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch etc.

Well, either way I decided to preorder it when I read on Helion's website that it includes a 36 page colored mapbook, which definitely indicates at least a good enough amount of text detail...
