Otto Skorzeny

Special Issue I/2011 Ritterkreuz

Otto Skorzeny

68 pages, hundreds of documents, maps and photos

With a special preface of Hugh Page Taylor

That Otto Skorzeny is definitely one of the most controversial and exciting World War II, to which many historians have devoted articles and books, to exalt or denigrate his actions for good or evil, however, were extraordinary: the liberation of the Duce Gran Sasso, the operation "Panzerfaust" in October 1944, the operation 'Griffin' during the offensive in the Ardennes to the heroic defense of the bridgehead on the Oder Schwedt. But we must not forget all the other missions, less successful, which were designed to work with Skorzeny unit coordinated with the "S" (sabotage) of AMT-VI Sicherheitsdienst, the SS security service, which was created from units stationed in the Friedenthal, as an attempt to launch the parachute in Persia groped for raising the local tribes against the British or the attempt to sabotage the Suez Canal through an air-drops of experts in explosives, as well as all other missions behind enemy lines where they were committed to the various Jägdverbande SS-created and organized by the same Skorzeny. All these tasks would not have been possible without the preparation provided by the special training schools, which, starting from that of developed Friedenthal of the whole of Germany from 1943 onwards. For the writing of this monograph as well as archive documents, is a source of allied and German (very inconsistent), we referred to the numerous testimonies of the protagonists in the war and direct release to the many published numerous books on the subject, and about Skorzeny its missions, trying to trace as closely as his military career and to bring the story of the most important episodes in as much detail as possible, having found numerous discrepancies between the many sources available.
