Hi Guys,

As a matter of interest, are any of you collecting W-SS memoirs but not Heer memoirs?

If so, why?

The former tends to indicate a primary interest in political history, whereas the latter tends to indicate a primary interest in military history.

Cheers,

Sid.

Too much good reading available from both sides to limit myself. I enjoy collecting both, as well as Allied memoirs. Just saw my first Russian infantyman title. Guess I will have to start a new shelf.

Well, your list looks like my "want list". Remember, if a book really sucks tell us so that we may save our money for one of the good books.

Anyone one here read Feuer! ?? This will be done in a day or so, and will post a review. Got a First ed too.

Yes - it's not premier league, but it's pretty good - and especially as an insight into the Eastern Front from a non-infantryman/panzer man. I much prefer In Deadly Combat however.

I agree with Hadler. "Feuer" is a nice book to read, but there are several others of this style I would choose ahead. That being said, there are defintely many I would class below it. One of those that when you have read the top shelf books and have a little extra spending money is a decent buy.

I hope "top shelf books" in the US are very different to those in the UK. :D

"Goodbye Transylvania" by S.H. Landau

Post by kordts »

I just got this one :D It's been on my wish list for over a year. It was referenced a bit by Russ Schneider in "Gotterdammerung 1945" I am reading it now. It was quite steep, so I will probably sell it when I am done with it. I am in the process of starting my own plumbing contracting business. I really can't afford 45 bucks for a book, but Russ Schneider reccomended it. If anyone is selling books, I can always scrape up cash by fixing a few more toilets :?

Cheers, Jeff.

Hans Rohr: "Kriegstagebuch eines Gebirgsjäger; Selbstverlag, Paternion 1985.

A 516-page long memoires by Leutnant (Hauptmann) HANS ROHR (Ritterkreuzträger from Narvik 1940) from Austrian Carinthia, describing in details his campaigns in World War II with many never published photographs from his collection and hand-drawn maps. He had fought through his entire WW2 career with the 3rd Gebirgs-Division in Poland, Norway (Narvik, Kirkenes, Neiden, Petsamo, Kiestinki, Titowka etc.) and for a brief period of time also in Italy. Wonderful book.

I noticed here some very rare books. Has anyone of you ever been playing with an idea to make a list of all German WW2 memoires and diaries? A friend of mine from Austria was working on one. Don't know if he still does, though. I think it could be a nice addition for next to Jason's list of German WW1 units histories, eh?

Devil's Guard

Post by Tulane »

In regards to Waffen SS memoirs, you could count the Devil's Guard as one although many people think it may be a "stretch" in the accuracy department. That said, it is a great read. It is back in print at a website called: http://www.hailerpublishing.com. 8)
