German Soldbuch

Post by charlie don't surf »

I found a sniper soldbuch, could anyone familiar with those tell me if there's anything interesting in it. I'm looking for information regarding personal data (age, where he was born etc) his service and so on. I would be most grateful for any help.

Mutilated SOldbuch

Post by joscha »

His name was Josef Weissinger, and he was born in Mauer, district of Amstetten, (now the province of Upper Austria), He was not married and a paper hanger by trade (yes, there is such a profession; and no, Hitler never was one). He was 1.85 meters in heighth (6'2"), stocky, with an oval face, dark blond hairs and blue eyes.

Th Soldbuch was made out at the 3d Replacement Battalion, Infantry Regiment 135, stationed at Ried im Innkreis, Upper Austria (then the Gau Upper Danube - Oberdonau).

Sorry, but his date of birth is missing; it was in that corner that was torn off, or chewed off by mice, whatever. No telephone number in the Amstetten area for this person exists at present, so he probably did not survive the war. Joscha

Thanks Joscha! You've been most helpful. I should have said that there was some other info about him: http://www.ww-2militaria.com/b/group/joe/joe_desc.htm, I'm sorry for that. Anyway, I appreciate your help and I'm most grateful.
