Could someone tell me the translation of SS-Verfügungstruppen?

SS-Troops on disposal!

So, what is the right translation?

Correct English translation would be "Reserves" in the meaning of reserve troops held back for later use.

I'd say Troops at disposal.

Those troops were replacements for other troops. AFAIK they often were 2nd rate troops, since they often were lacking proper training and equipment,, at least late in the war.

Hi all,

SS-Verfügungstruppe stands for SS Special Purpose Troops, the transitional name given to the militarised formations of SS. The fore runner of the Waffen-SS.

There is no English equivalent really - the literal translation of "troops available" "troops at the ready for orders" doesn't make much sense. The best suggestion I can offer is SS "special troops" or maybe SS reserve troops.

"Verfügungstruppe" makes just as little sense in German as the literal translation "forces having been made available". This was simply the name given to those troops that later became the Waffen-SS (as someone has mentioned already). As such, it shouldn't be translated (or do you translate Waffen-SS into Weapons-SS?)
