Well this one has me completely beaten.

Post by Richard Hargreaves »

I got as far as...

This place was characterised by horror. The eye automatically looked for gallows or some similar sign, which turned this place into Golgotha. ...

And then my brain gave up. :(

It stood like the moan of the un-redeemed around these remains of walls, un-redeemed people, which although they wander the whole world, maybe even until the remotest star, yet still they only confront other people like ghost in these places.

Perhaps students of the German literature from 100-150 years ago might have a better idea of the text ;) I gave up trying to figure out this stuff years ago right after being confronted with the concept of 'das Firmament'

Here's what I understand from the German text .. goofy complicated stuff ..

This location was marked by a sense of dread. Automatically my eye was guided to a search for a gallows or some other sign that would transform this location to a resting place for the skulls and bones of the deceased. This place stood as the representation of the mourning of the unredeemed among the remains of these walls, the unredeemed, who wander aimlessly throughought the world, perhaps even unto the furthest star, but who only in such places are able to exist among the living.

HTH ;)
