Could it be the "SS-Kradschützen-Ersatz- Bataillon Ellwangen" ? But again it's a wild guess . .

Hello !

Here are my suggestions to those parts where I am pretty sure :

SS Usch.A. K. ????? b. Gen. Kp. Kradsch. E. Btl. Ellwangen / Jagst

In full length this should read as :
SS Unterscharführer Anwärter K. ????? bei [der] Genesenden Kompanie [des] Kradschützen-Ersatz-Bataillons Ellwangen/Jagst.
[Such a company would typically consist of convalescent men, sent there after beeing wounded or seriously ill.]

In the following link :
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Kas ... ngen-R.htm

you can find confirmation, that a number of SS-Ersatz-units were garrisoned in Ellwangen (near the river Jagst),
among them a SS-Kradschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon.

So I think most of the the deciphering of Richard is correct :D .

According to the surname I am very unsure. The only thing I would like to mention is, that there are
3 capital K 's (very similar to each other) in the handwriting and each of them looks different to the first letter of the surname.

I could also imagine, that the last two letters could be read as "ck", but that is also only a guess !
If you could post some more lines of the handwriting, maybe it is possible to make a more substantiated guess 8) .

I hope this is at least a little help,
best regards,

hero.

Hello Hero! Thanks for the info :) I think the soldier's name is KURT KNOCH. There are a few on the Volksbund database, but I'd love to know what SS unit he belonged to at the front. Thanks for responding

Hi Postofficeworker,
I don't think it is Knoch for the surname. The "K" for the first name (Kurt) and the "K" later on for Kradsch. look similar but bear no similarity to the first letter of the surname as far as I can see.

Knoch,

I'm sure you probably know this already.

Pz.Art.Rgt. 92 unter Oberst Knoch wurde am 28. Dezember 1943 der 5. Jäger-Division unterstellt.
