die Erfahrung machten wir früher schon,
wenn wir fort waren, am schönsten
ist es zu Hause, in unserem gemütlichen
Heim. Man muss aber immer
mal wieder fort, um dies ....

Finally, finally the eagerly awaited letters arrived. That is two letters, namely of 28th and 29th. ... Why, you don't write how long you were there. Yes mother, we experienced that before, wenn we were away, it's best at home, in our cozy home. But one has to go away from time to time to realize this.

Mein Liebes!
Endlich, endlich kam heute der so

Aber da fehlt sicher einer, in dem
Du mir Eure Reise ankündigst?
Nun ja, ist jetzt auch gleich, auf jeden
Fall weiß ich jetzt, daß es bei Euch
gut geht. Und jetzt gleich zu Deinem
lieben großen Brief vom 28.
Da seid Ihr wie ich ja vermutete
in Dellfeld gewesen. Du schreibst gar nicht
wie lange Ihr dort wart. Ja Mutti,
die Erfahrung machten wir früher schon,
wenn wir fort waren, am schönsten
ist es zu Hause, in unserem gemüt-
lichen Heim. Man muß aber immer
mal wieder fort, um dies voraus

feststellen zu können. Manfred gefiel
also der "Landaufenthalt".Genau wie
seiner Schwester, auch mit dem Schlafen.
Ja Schätzel, wie schön das alles jetzt wäre,
wenn es Friede wäre, man darf nicht
daran denken. Ich bin ja schon glücklich
wenn ich an Euch mein Glück denke
u. so liebe Briefe erhalte.
Ja Schätzel, der "Hochstadter Abend", der
ja so bestimmend für unser Leben
war, ist noch gut in unserem Gedächt-
nis.
Daß den Kindern die Pfirsiche so gut
schmecken ist ja recht, da möchte ich
vor allem bei unserem Buben mal zusehen.
Lb. Else! Deine Sorgen um mich als Soldat
laß ich gelten; ist es doch ein beglückendes
Gefühl zu wissen, zu Hause, da ist ein
Mädel, daß ganz lieb an Dich denkt.

Nur möchte ich nicht haben, daß Du Dich
allzu sehr u. gar unbegründet um mich
bangst. Um mich als Mensch hast Du
dies auf keinen Fall nötig!
Daß Elisabeth so bös ist, ist bedauer-
lich aber doch nicht so schlimm. Habe ihr
im Stillen schon oft die Schläge, die ich
ihr im Urlaub gab, abgebeten.
Der Brief wäre aber nur halb beant-
wortet, wenn ich nicht für das liebe
Bildel meiner 3 Lieben, danken wür-
de. Wirklich goldig, nur schade daß
der Film etwas verschoben war. Be-
sonders unser Bub ist schön darauf.
Bin ja so auf die andern Bilder ge-
spannt, die ich im 2 Brief vermißte.
Damit wäre der erste beantwortet u.
u. der zweite, leider weniger lieb, käme
dran.
So groß mit den "Damen" war dieser
Abend doch nicht. Was Du Dir da alles

vorstellst. Der Abend ging ja nicht auf
mine Veranlassung vonstatten
Deine Erregung kann ich nicht
verstehen. Ich will mich weiter nicht
dazu äußern u. hoffe, daß Du gerecht
über die Sache denkst, denn Du stellst
Dir alles falsch vor. Ich meine fast
nicht, daß Du das geschrieben hast.
Was das Geld anbelangt, so habe ich
den Mädel 3 Bier bezahlt u. zwar deswe-
gen weil sie uns das Telefonieren
nach Hause ermöglichen können.
War das ein Verbrechen? Else, was
hast Du da nur für Gedanken ge-
habt? - daß mein Brief komisch ist,
kann ich nicht verstehen u. weiß es
nicht, lese sie selten noch mal durch.
Am Sonntag hatte ich ja keinen Aus-
gang. - Den Kaffee habe ich für uns
gedacht. - damit lege ich Deinen Brief weg ...
der ist nicht von meinem lieben Mädel ...

Heute hatte ich von 3-7 frei. Ich fuhr
mit einem Kameraden in die
Stadt, ohne Ziel. Wir machten dann
einen 3/4 stündigen Marsch u. landeten
im Fliegerheim, wo wir es uns
wieder im Garten bequem mach-
ten. Um 1/2 7 waren wir wieder
daheim. Der Kamerad hat ein d...
bei Saarbrücken. Seine Frau hatte ihm
grad heute von dem Flieger....
geschrieben.
Neben Deinem Brief erlebte ich
heute noch eine Enttäuschung. Bei
der Postverteilung ersah ich aus der
Postliste, daß ich nicht mehr auf 7. vorge-
sehen bin. Warum u. was man
mit mir jetzt vorhat weiß ich nicht.
Ich bin leidig.

fentlich kommt morgen Nachricht
u. gute, dann ist ja alles gut. -
Hier wird das Besatzungsgeld
eingezogen. Nimmt es die Spar-
kasse noch, wenn ich es hier nicht
mehr gewechselt bekomme?
Heute Mittag machte ich wieder
ein Sonnenbad, das Wetter ist gut.

I am not sure whether "eingezogen" translates to "confiscated" (the bottom letter).

But surely one is missing, in which you announced your trip?
Well, it does not matter, in any case I know now that all is well with you.
And now right away to your dear long letter from the 28.
You have been, as I had assumed, in Dellfeld. You do not even write how long you have been there.
Yes, Mom, we experienced that earlier already when we were away, that the best place to be was our cozy home.
But one has to go away once a while, in order to realize that.

So, Manfred liked the "country vacation". Like his sister, also the sleeping arrangements.
Yes, Darling, how great all this would be if we were at peace, one dare not even think about it.
I am already happy when I think about you my happiness, and to receive so dear letters.
Yes Darling, the "Hochstadter Evening", which really was quite determining for our life, is still very well in our minds.
It's fine that the peaches tasted so good to the children, I would like to watch especially our boy.
Dear Else, your worries about me as soldier I accept; it sure is a happy feeling to know, that at home there is a
girl which thinks lovingly about you.

Only I will not have that you worry about me too much and even without reason.
About me as a person by any means you certainly don't need to bother!
It is unfortunate that Elisabeth is so naughty, but it is not so bad after all. I often apologized
silently for the beatings, which I gave her on vacation.
But the letter only would be half answered, if I would not thank you for the dear picture of my 3 loved ones.
Really sweet, only too bad that the film is a bit shifted. Especially our boy is on it real well.
I am so excited about the other pictures, which I was missing in the 2. letter.
Herewith the first one is answered, and the second one, unfortunately less sweet, would be next.
The evening was not at all that big with the "Ladies". The things you imagine for yourself.

I did not originate the evening. I cannot understand your agitation.
I don't want to make any other comments about it and hope,
that you will think fairly about the matter, as you imagine all wrong.
I almost don't believe that you wrote this. As far as the money is concerned,
I paid for 3 beer for the girls, and the reason for this is,
that they can make the telephone conversations to home possible.
Was that a crime? Else, what thoughts did you have? -
That my letter seems strange I cannot understand and don't know it either,
seldom I re-read them.
On Sunday I had no permission to go out. -
The coffee was thought for us. -
with that, I put your letter away ...
that one is not from my dear girl ...

Today I was off from 3 - 7. I drove with a comrade to town, without aim.
Then we made a 3/4 hour march and landed in the Fliegerheim, where we made ourselves
comfy in the garden. Half past 6 we were home again. The comrade has a Drugstore near Saarbruecken.
His wife had just written to him about the air raid.
Besides your letter I experienced today one more disappointment.
At the distribution of mail I could see from the mail list that I am not
scheduled for the 7. anymore.
I don't know why, and what they plan with me now.
I am wretched.

My Darling!
I am in worry, as again I did not receive today, the 4. day, any mail from you.
Did you go to Dellfeld or did something happen, a couple of lines would have been efficient already. Or is it only the postal office. I hope tomorrow brings news and good one, then all will be well. -
Here the occupation money is confiscated (?)
Does the Bank still accepts it, if I cannot get it exchanged here?
Today at noon I am taking a sunbath again, the weather is good.
