Sütterlinschrift

Post by Gunther »

I have many letters from my Grandfather, posted from France and then Russia during his time with the 3rd SS Totenkopf Division.
Many of these I can read (I speak German) and translate as they are written in clear latin type handwriting. However, up until
October 1941 all of the letters are in the Sütterlinschrift - even with a 'decoder' this is extremely difficult to master and even
translate to 'German' nevermind to English. Does anyone know of any translation service that might be able to decipher these
letters into latin script German...? I think I'll be here until the end of time deciphering them otherwise!

His letters from the Demjansk pocket are fascinating, bunker building / the landscape / threat of capture / partisan hunting...
but overall the need to write the letters and keep the idea of family and purpose close to him.

Any pointers much appreciated.
Thanks, Gunther
