I can understand many of the place names, especially in Russia, but am wanting to know excactly what the division was doing.

254 Infantry Division, formed 1939 in army district Munster.

In the West, May-June 1940, advance through Luxemburg and Belgium to France. From Sedan south over Stonne, Mirecourt to Epinal.

In the East, June-Sep 1941 advance through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to Reval, forced crosssing of the Narwa River in the region of Leningrad.

September 1941 to April 1942, service at Leningrad (Schlusselburg) and on the Wolchow River between the Lake Ladoga and Lake Ilmen.

April 1942 to February 1943, fighting southeast and south of the Lake Ilmen (on the Valday Hills, at the Demansk Pocket and Staraya Russa). March-Dec fighting in the region of Leningrad, south of Lake Ladoga at Mga.

Jan-Mar 1944, Rail transport to the southern portion of the front. Fighting in the region of Shitomir-Winniza. Mar-Apr withdrawl fighting as a part of the Hube Pocket in the region of Kamenenz-Podolsk to the Strypa at Buczacz (the rest of the division was reformed with the destroyed 82 Infantry Division as the 82 Division Group).

Apr-Jul 1944, in positions on the Dnjester River, south of Tarnopol.

Jul 1944 to Feb 1945, withdrawl over the Styri, through the upper Carpathian mountains, over Sanok, to the Dukla Pass in Slovakia. Heavy defensive battles at Ungvar-Kaschau. Retreat over Herlany, Solivar, Levoca, Poprad to Rosenburg (Slovakia).

Feb 1945, Rail transport to Glatz (Schlesein). March to Breslau. Heavy defensive battles on the Zobten and in the pocket. Later service in the region of Jagerndorf-Olmutz.

In the region of Deutsch-Brod at the end of WWII. Taken by the Soviets.
