Need help with information about my Grandfather.

Post by krichter33 »

Hi, my grandfather fought for the German army during WWII. However, he had disappeared after around 1944. The Ministry in Germany sent me some information saying that the last they heard of him was in Nov. of 44. They said he was with 165 - 2./Vet.E.Abt.2. If anyone can please tell me what unit that is it would be greatly greatly greatly appreciatied.

Hello Klaus,
you could try to find information about your grandfather by contacting the following listed office. They may be able to provide info about your grandfather:

Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt)
Postfach 51 06 57
13400 Berlin
Germany

The telephone number: 011 49 30 4 19 05 (intern 98 59)
I believe that the number in parenthesis is the extension number

This is the office from which I, after contacting a few other offices in Germany received information about my service records in the Wehrmacht.

I would assume that somebody there would be able and willing to find data about your grandfather.

Good luck,
Rudi S.

I know I posted this a long time ago. But I still was wondering if anyone can help me with what unit 165 - 2./Vet.E.Abt.2 is? Thanks.

To me it sounds more of his Erkennungsmarke.

nr 165
2./ = 2e Kp.
Vet. = Veterinary
E. = Ersatz
Abt. 2 = Abteilung 2

Wim
Any information about Flemisch in German service (Waffen SS, OT, NSKK, Kriegsmarine, ...) during WWII is welcome.

Thank you very much for the information! Is the Erkennungsmarke his identification tag?

This is what Lexikon der Wehrmacht has to say about the unit:
Veterinär-Ersatz-Abteilung 2

Armeekorps. Im Jahr 1943 wurde die Abteilung zur Veterinär-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung 2 umbenannt.

For non-German readers:
nr 165
2nd Company
Veterinary Replacement Battalion 2.
In 1943 renamed as Veterinary Replacement and Training Battalion 2.

With best,
