Many years ago when my wife and I visited Hugo at his home he gave me a small container of Holly Hock seeds from his garden. I planted those seeds in my garden and those plants are still flowering. I will think of Hugo whenever I see those plants.

Below is a wartime photo that Hugo gave me.

Here is a photo of Hugo's awards and decorations that one of his friends gave me to post. In addition to his German awards (minus the Infantry Assault Badge) are Dutch army badges: Anti-aircraft Artillery Badge and beret badge (don't know about the regimental badge and the Red Cross & medic badges. The Dutch medal is for his participation in the Four Day March. It was awarded between 1909-1958 because it has the initials NBVLO; in 1959 the initials changed to KNBLO

When a true gentleman dies, it is a very sad thing. Hugo always was an old school gentleman. I will miss him.

It has been a little over a month since HaEn died. I am sure that he would be delighted to read all of these thoughtful comments that so many people around the world whose lives he has touched have been making about him. Attached is another photo courtesy of Guy Power of HaEn playing the guitar in the post-war Dutch detention camp of Harskamp.

Thank you John,

It was at this forum that I first met Hugo.
He was always a gentlemen and a generous person
who didn't mind sharing whatever you asked of.

Its still hard to believe he is gone.
