Our friend and my comrade Rudi Welz is in the hospital in Bavaria and having a knee replacement.
After that of course comes some hard adjustment of rehabilitation.
He just had lost his wife of some 60 years of marriage , and is still downhearted.
It would be nice if all who remember him, would send him some encouragement.
He does read and speak English fluently so you don't have to bother with German.
Just so you know.

He still need encouragement though. !!

Hi

Thatz great news. Tell him to stay warm.

We need the continuing voice of hands-on experience to remind us of our errors and of our lapses of humanity today.

My own service militaire was brief and inglorious but I AM getting older now and I DO know the beginnings of that smell....At least it proves that one of my nostrils is still working.

Best regards and Gros to Rudi.

Thank you Franz, !!!!!
I do not talk on the phone or even Skype to Rudi, because: get this . . . . .my German is deteriorating at an exponential rate :x
I can read it, and understand it as before, but when it comes to speaking or writing, I fail miserably. Part of getting old I guess.
Come to think of it, although more French comes up to the surface , even my native language Dutch is getting worse, and when i talk to the few relatives that are still alive, it is specked with English, because I have to search for the Dutch word. :x
Oh well, I am thankful for the years I had, and side with Andy Rooney. It's nice to be remembered, but somehow birthdays have lost their luster.
Merry Christmas !!!! to y'all.
HN.

Hallo to all friends and comrades,

thanks a lot for the good wishes!
I hope to be able to walk like before in the middle or end of January 2012.
Tomorrow the doc will take the 22 cramps off and than I have to make my exercises every day ambulant.
I didn't want to stay in the hospital any longer, because I saw enough two months ago when my dear wife
Erika left me.
I still feel strong enough to do it my way and I hope to succeed.

Dear Rudi

To a fellow fighter and a remarkable survivor.

Before you know it, you will be snow-boarding and surfing and climbing mountains....Well, maybe not but you have similar determination and a fighter's spirit so I wish you much luck on your Journey and send you early Christmas greetings from Feldgrau's many Other Ranks truppen.
