POW in two wars...

Post by L. Kafka »

Trying to remember if there were cases of aviators or soldiers being taken prisoner in two different wars. Something about an American aviator possibly being shot down during WWII and then twenty years later in Vietnam. Anyone know of such two war POW experiences?

How about the same war ? There is a local vet who was shot down and captured by the Germans. He spent some time in a Luftwaffe Stalag...then managed to escape. He made his way back to Allied lines and was repatriated. He then ended up flying in the Pacific Theater and was shot down over China. He was captured and help by the Japanese until wars end.
Fascinating guy...and he will tell you in no uncertain terms that he was treated much better by the Germans.

Dale, can you give us the man's name and if is story has ever been told in print, local newspaper, magazine, or mentioned in a book?
This fella being taken POW twice in the same war in two different theaters reminds of the book review I read earlier this year about a Japanese man that witnessed by Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He fled Hiroshima thinking there would be more destruction to come for what he thought would be the safety of Nagasaki only to see more of it.
