For some years I've been trying to find info about German POWs captured by the Americans. My Dad, a medic in the 80th Infantry Division, took a souvenir of a German soldier's wallet which had his name and quite a few photos in it. My Dad felt bad about it afterwards. After he died I came into possession of it. The name on the wallet is Wilhelm Birkholz (a fairly common name I assume) and he was captured somewhere near Metz I believe.
All the websites I've tried have been fruitless. I assume the U.S. Army must have kept records of POWs but cannot find any database for them.
Any help is appreciated.
