Interesting that a veteran of the Nord Division lives in the UK; perhaps he later served in another unit and was captured by the British as were most of the Waffen-SS veterans I know(or knew) who came to live in the UK. Heard of veterans from the Leibstandarte, Totenkopf, Polizei Div., Wiking, Frundsberg, Langemarck and Nordland (British Free Corps) living in the UK and now a veteran of Nord.

Yet Das Reich surrendered mainly to US Forces. Perhaps he evaded capture only to be picked up by the British or maybe he came to live in Britain for some other reason. A friend of mine here in Scotland served in the Leibstandarte for most of the Russian campaign but ended up in SS-Regt "Falke", which fought around Halbe. He evaded capture there and made it across the Elbe evading the US Forces there only to be captured by the British later and sent to Scotland as a POW.

Several days ago I learned that the former Untersturmführer Felix Benesch of the "Prinz Eugen" has died on December 2. I understand that he had a heart attack in Vienna where he lived. His photo can be found a number of times on this thread as he was very active in the "Prinz Eugen" veterans association and was highly regarded by his comrades.

Benesch was also a veteran of the "Nord" division. In the summer of 1941 he was an Unterscharführer in the 8./SS-Infantrie Rgt.7.
