I´m trying to find out information about my wifes grandfather who died in Italy 1943.
This I know:
Hes name was WOLFGANG GÜnther.
He was born in Dresden Aug 14th 1905.
He was employed at Carl Zeiss
He´s rank was Leutnant.
He died on Dec 22nd 1943 at "Kriegslazarett 934" in Aquila/Italy.
He was buried at "the Militrfriedhof in Cortina d´Amprezzo/Italy.
In 1957 he was moved to "Soldatfriedenhof in Pordoi/italy.
He´s family fled to Swden with the help of the swedish count Folke Bernadotte just before the bombings of Dresden.
I would like to know how I can find he´s serialnumber and what unit he belonged to since my mother in law don´t know anything about he´s whereabouts during the war

You could contact the VdK (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.) or the Cemetery (Kriegsgräberstätte) at Pordoi to find out his EKM (Dogtag) number.ironcross.se wrote:I´m trying to find out information about my wifes grandfather who died in Italy 1943.

This number will tell you also a unit number but it could be another unit-number than the unit he served when he was killed.
The best you can do is contact the WASt (Deutsche Dienststelle) at Berlin and fill in a tracing request.
