Gifts from Veterans

Many of the post-war German veterans associations produced a variety memorabilia for the members to display and to raise money. I have no idea as to what the monetary value for any of these items is or their rarity, however, they do have a special value for the owner. Over the next few weeks I will show some of this memorabilia that I have acquired and I hope that other Feldgrau members will do the same thing.

This is a ceramic plate from the 5.SS-Panzer Division "Wiking". It is 9.25 inches in diameter. It was given to me in 1995 by the former Sturmbannführer Günter Bernau, who had served in that division's artillery regiment from 1941 - 1945, during a visit to his home near Munich.

During the same visit Bernau also gave me this. It is a lead miniature (5.5 x 4.75 inches weighing 3 pounds) of a placque that was erected at the Feldherrnhalle in Munich commemorating the men killed during the unsuccessful November 1923 Putsch.

P.S.
It is not just the collection, but the way these old warriors donated (almost dedicated) them to him.
Don't forget that he was one of the early few who seriously investigated and documented the lives and actions of these men.

Thanks for everyone's nice comments.

Here is a dagger representing the 6.SS-Gebirgs Division "Nord". It is nine inches in length and came with a leather sheath and metal clip similar to what you find with a fighting knife. The chairman of the SS signals association presented me with this dagger at a reunion several years ago. Another vet had given it to him to give to me and I never found out who that man was.

Hi Tom,
I have no idea what I am looking at, other than a good looking well preserved ? SS dagger.
How does one determine that it is a replica ??
I was offered one for sale, similar to this, but "chromed", and thus knew that that was a fake.
