I'm looking for any information I can for Gustav Pfister. I'm not sure if I have the spelling right. He was supposed to have been a Field Marshall??? Any information would be appreciated.

I'm an independent filmmaker working on a non-profit documentary about North Africa 1942-43. In the past, this site has been extremely valuable to my research. In fact an old question regarding the origin of a torpedo that struck the USS Thomas Stone was clarified by an Italian author/historian who replied to my inquiry right here.

With little or no budget, I've traveled around the country searching for veterans who have valuable contributions to this story. The film is a docu-drama based on actual stories from veterans who saw action in North Africa.

I've scanned through the list of German Veteran War Associations here. It appears many of them require communication in German. Does anyone know of the existence of a particular organization based in New Jersey USA?

I've scanned through the list of German Veteran War Associations here. It appears many of them require communication in German. Does anyone know of the existence of a particular organization based in New Jersey USA?

Philladelphia has one of North Americas oldest German Clubs .
Perhaps someone (I am sure there must be a Veteran or two that may be able to help?) They do have a stammtisch there, a place were Germans get to gether socially.

Dear Sir/s,

I am in search of any information pertaining to my maternal grandfather. He served in the German Army during WWII. We have a few photos of him in uniform when he was staioned in Italy as well as Tunisia - that we know is a fact. I was informed to inquire at: www.dd-wast.de
I gave them appropiate information to the best of my knowledge. This was done on April of 2010. It now is comming up on a full year and I have yet to hear any info back. I did have intermittent contant with a gentleman from the "Bundesarchiv".
He told me to try the same website (www.dd-wast.de). I would love to hear from anyone who has had success with this process.

Did you provide them place and date of birth? They will need it.

Yes, I gave them everything they needed: birthplace,birthdate,Date of death....etc....I haven't received any response whatsoever....Its just a few months shy of a year...hopefully something soon...huh ???
Does anyone know what type of information they will provide ??? I sure appreciate ANY help and ANY advice.

Sometimes I hear that they have to look around quite a bit. At times there is no information
at all as we have to remember the bombing.

My Fathers information was just basic but my Uncles was in detail, all goes to show
that we are lucky to find anything at all.

Don't forget to write to Red Cross in Switzerland as they would have information if he was in an POW camp
and also if he had needed any visits to the hospital for any treatments etc?

Thank you for your help. Luckily, my grandfather survived the war. Unfortunately he died in 1951 of complications of a disease that he contracted while serving in the mediterranean area.

Where would I contact the Red Cross to see if he was hospitalized ?

Also, my mother just informed me that she found my grandfather's "soldbuch"...what information would this give me ?

one capture card from the camp he was in.

I will do as you say and write the address you gave me - Thank you. All I know about my grandfather is what my mother told me. But then again, he died when she was just a small girl. My grandmother passed away in the late 80's. During that time, my lack of communicating in German hindered our relationship. I yearn to know more about my "Opa". From what my mother knew, he was a hard working, honest good man. All I have are a few photos of him, a few pieces of German field gear and a few pieces of military papers. Hopefully, I will be going to Germany with my mother this summer and investigate further. Maybe if I post a photo or two of him in his uniform, someone could help me identify his rank and so forth...I will see if I can post them.....
