Hi Explorer,

Are you familar with the WASt? They are a German organisation who do tracing requests for former Wehrmacht soldiers. It takes a bit of time, and costs a few euro's, but they should be able to give you some info on your father.

The site appears to be down at the moment. It'll come back though. Another suggestion is that mabye you could scan the photos you have, and post them here. There is many knowledgable people here who should be able to figure out some details from the photos, such as the unit he was with, medals he won, where he was, etc, etc.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,
Jock

Just came across this forum in my search to find information or anyone that might have known my father. His name was Deussen. First name he used was either Martin or Albert. All I know was he joined the army in 1939 as an assult soldier, fought on the Eastern front, then was captured by the US in 1944 in France. Taken as a POW to Arizona then shipped to the UK where he stayed. He died 10 yrs ago and all I have is a few photos, no date of birth but born in Dusseldorf.

I know this is a very long shot -- but maybe I might be lucky.

Any help or advice gratefully received. Unfortunately I do not speak German which I know is not very helpful.
Hi Explorer
Try here: http://www.vksvg.de
If you don't speak German try the English part of the Forum. The guys at http://www.vksvg.de normally have good ideas for searching.

Hi "Isabella" :D

Glad you got that sorted out, look forward to you posting more pics.

What I have so far is he is wearing a General Assualt Badge, and a Black Wound Badge. Not sure what the ribbon is. Can anyone identify his speciality by the colour of the piping on his shoulder boards? Looks like its a light colour - any ideas?

Cheers,
Jock
