Looking for Waffen SS records for a Hilmar ROLL

Looking for any information on a Hilmar ROLL. Born in 1924 in what is now Ukraine. Supposedly killed in war. He was in Waffen SS, number 34 192. Where would I look for any information? Are there records still available on individual soldiers? What do these numbers mean? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

NARA alternatively the German Bundesarchiv should have some information about him.
