Conditions for awarding "Deutsche Kreuz in Gold"

Hi there,
I'm hoping some knowledgable forum member can help with this one.

I've come across a reference in an officer's Personalakten (personnel file) that says: "3 Bedingungen zum deutschen Kreuz erfüllt." (3 conditions for the German Cross fulfilled).

According to Horst Schiebert's book "Die Träger des deutschen Kreuzes in Gold", the DKiG was awarded "...for multiple extraordinary acts of bravery...".

My question therefore is how many acts of bravery were required before the DKiG was awarded? And are the "conditions" mentioned the same as acts of bravery? I was always under the impression that the DKiG could also be awarded for a single act of courage.

And this officer who had fulfilled 3 conditions never won the award.

Thanks in advance for any help.

See the following... Hope this Helps...
Interesting for you is Artikel 3

Image

The Actions must be up to five times
a) in extraordinary courage
b) in millitary leadership

prerequisite for the awarding is

EK 1 / 1939
EK 1 / First WW
or KVK 1st Class with swords

Best wishes for the new year

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for posting this very interesting information.

My knowledge of the German language is obviously not as good as yours, but I cannot see where it says "five times" - I can only see "vielfache", which means "multiple" (or am I completely wrong?). I hope you can clear this up for me.

This raises another questions: Were the fulfilled "conditions" (acts of courage) recorded in a soldiers Soldbuch or Wehrpass?

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

there stand nowhere up to five times, this was an unwriten law and an error of me... :(

In quote to Gottlob Herbert Bidermanns Book "...und litt an meiner Seite" Page 23:

"...therefore should to awarding for Officers 8 and for Unteroffiziere and Mannschaften (enl. Men) 6 actions of bravery..."

The conditions were recorded by the Regt. / Division...

Sorry, my english isn´t the best...Hope this Helps...

The number of combats in the recommendation varies greatly, see my new book by Bender Publishing "German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police," volume 1.
