Wolfgang Semmer RKT

Post by storm39 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 2:24 am

Hi,

Would anyone have any information on Wolfgang Semmer. He won the Knights Cross in 1940 in France as a Leutnant In IR 85. There was a Wolfgang Semmer executed in Yugoslavia in 1948 and I was wondering if that was the same man ( this man at that time was a Major) and if so what was the crime that he was executed for.

Thanks

Hello storm39!

Yes, it's the same Wolfgang Semmer. Born in 24.02.1917, he reached the rank of Major and was executetd as a P.O.W. in Yugoslav captivity on 02.12.1949. Source is Veit Scherzer; "Ritterkreuzträger 1939-1945" (2005) and Herr Scherzer comments that he was "in jugoslawischer Kriegsgefangenschaft ermordet". This could indicate that he wasn't really tried in a Yugoslav Court of Law (at least not correctly tried), as Scherzer, being a very methodical and meticilous researcher, uses the "murdered".

I don't have any further information on Major Wolfgang Semmer and the circumstances his trial and execution. He is mentionend in the following lengthy thread over at AHF, concerning post 1945 War trials in Yugoslavia post. It's not much but maybe you could find sources to follow...
