Hello to all :D; more pilots who got his EK II in 1939...........

Decorated with Iron Cross 2º Class - Poland and Germany 1939.

Oberleutnant Rolf Pingel (POW 10 Jul 1941) On September 30, 1939 he led the 2./JG 53 in a successful interception against 5 Fairey Battle belonging to the Royal Air Force which flew a reconnaissance mission over Saarbrücken-Merzig. Four of the single-engine bombers were shot down, including one from Pingel. The fifth was forced to land on their return to its base and was destroyed as well. As September 1937 Rolf Pingel was member of the Legion Condor and fought on national-Spanish side in the Spanish Civil War. Leutnant Pingel was with the 2./J 88. During his assignment in the Iberian Peninsula, he scored six kills in about 200 sorties. He was awarded the Spanish Cross in Gold with swords for his performance in this conflict.

Leutnant Paul Gutbrod (KIA 01 Jun 1940 as Oberleutnant) On September 08, 1939 he got the first victory achieved by the JG 52 and also the first enemy shot down of the Western Front. Through violent evasive maneuvers the opponent dodged the first attack of Leutnant Paul Gutbrod and took course to the West (France). Gutbrod came back from the astern despite the defensive fire of the gunner / observer and fired two short bursts on the enemy plane. The French plane disintegrated in the air and it fell to the ground near Karlsruhe. The crew, Sergeant Chief Piaccentini and observer Lieutenant Davier perished as a result of battle, for them there was no war in jest.

Hello to all :D; more pilots who got his EK II in 1939...........

Decorated with Iron Cross 2º Class - Poland and Germany 1939.

Here goes two guys belonging to the 1./ JG 53:

On September 09 1939 took place the first heavy air fights of the JG 53. Around 11:00 hours a formation (rotte) of 1./ JG 53 took off from Wiesbaden with Oberfeldwebel Grimmling and Unteroffizier Bezner who had orders to reconnoiter the Trier - Pirmasens area. They were flying northeast of Saarbrücken at an altitude of 6100 meters when Grimmling discovered a two-engined aircraft and shot it down. It was a Bloch-131 of French 14 GAR which crashed at Bliesransbach at 11.36 hrs. The pilot, Sgt. Bouvry, and two other crewmembers were KIA.

On September 10 1939, around 18:25 hours, two French reconnaissance planes of type ANF-Mureaux-115 belonging to GAO 1/520 which had orders to reconnoiter the effects of French artillery fire on the airfields at St. Arnual and Ensheim were sighted in the Saarbrücken area. The aircraft were escorted by Mureaux fighter planes from GC I/3. At the same time two formations (schwarme) from 1./JG 53 led by Oberfeldwebel Grimmling were on a reconnaissance flight in the Trier-Saarbrücken area. Both Grimmling and Unteroffizier Bezner managed to shoot down one fighter each. The aircraft hit by Grimmling managed to emergency land near Auersmacher, the one shot down by Bezner fell near Grosbliederstroff (2 KIA). The crewmembers that had landed near Auersmacher, Lahaye and Capoen, managed to make their way to the French lines.

Hello to all :D; something more..................

Someone belonging to the 3./ JG 53:

Another of the three Bloch-200s which were intercepted by German units on 9 September 1939 was that of the Commander of GB II/31, Eugène Delozanne. Some sources state Leutnant Wilhelm Hoffmann of 3./JG 53 as the one responsible for this crash. He was credited with shooting down a Bloch 200 at 15.35 near Saarbrücken. Apart from the commander perished Lt. Marcel Joly (pilot), Sous Lieutenant Jean Charreire (gunner), Adjutant-Chef Guillaume Petton (gunner) and Adjutant Jean Gaillières.

On September 30 1939 the 3./JG 53 was flying a mission over the Merzig - St. Wendel area. During the fights Leutnant Wilhelm Hoffmann was shot down and KIA by a French P-36 near Merzig. His Bf-109 was 100 % destroyed. The French claimed a victory by Adj. Marias of GC III/3 near Büdingen.
