re colonel dr jur ernst kupfer commander 11./stuka geshwader ''immelmann''
born in coburg 2/7/1907 died 6/11/1943 in griekenland.
award knights cross 23/11/1941
oak leaves 8/1/1943
swords 11/4/1944
my question is this brave man died 5 months before the award of the swords
was this rare or normal for the time. it would be interesting to know.
also please where is griekenland sounds like it could be greece ??

It sounds like Greece to me and it was quite common to find awards being made posthumously

griekenland is greece 100%,same as in dutch we also write it like that

Before getting the Knight's Cross or the Eichenlaub/Schwertern/Diamanten, an approval by the OKW was needed. Keitel and Hitler were almost solely responsible for awarding it. That could take some time, yes.

Dr. Jur. = could be a laywer, he studied law for sure.
