General Schenckendorff

Post by L.Gladysiak »

Hello everyone,

I am conducting the research connected with German units in Poznan (Posen) in autumn 1939 and so I have a question, if anybody knows sth about gen. Schenckendorff?

As far as my personal research is concerned it was established that he led the 148. Grenschutz Regiment that entered Posen at 10. September 1939. He was also nominated to temporary city-war-commander. That is unfortunately all what I can say...

I vill be grateful if anyone say sth more about him.

Best regards!

A few words more about Herr Max von Schenckendorf;
2. September 1939 he was appointed to Kampfgruppe that was ordered to take Poznan/Posen not later than 4.09. There were two infantry divisions (76. & 221.) and one airship unit consisted of 240 airplanes under his command. The group was attached to 8th Army but it was not sent to fight because of war proclamation of England and France on sunday 3. September. With high probability Kampfgruppe was disbanded and Schenckendorf was moved back to his prior unit - 148 Grsch-Reg.
