Kampfgruppe Haase - winter 1942.

Post by tigre »

Hello to all :D; any one here has more (or better ) information about this kampfgruppe and could kindly light me up on it?

The newspaper reads: EK (Iron Cross) award to Combat Team Haase, which endured for weeks in apparently lost positions until they were released by their comrades. In the meantime they had been supplied with all the necessary by air.

Thanks in advance. Raúl M 8).

Hello to all :D; something more................

Major Haase, Commanding Officer of one Engineer Battalion (Pi-Lehr-Btl 2) led a Combat Group which held successfully its positions in a strong point, the defense lasted several weeks and for that feat he was awarded the Knight Cross on Apr 12 1942.

Hello to all :D; after a while, something more................

Kampfgruppe Haase - winter 1942.

The Stavka transferred the 4th Airborne Corps under the control of the Western Front to provide Zhukov with additional strength. Their mission was to jump into the Velikopol'ye, Shushman and Zhelan'ye areas and carry out operations towards Pesochnya, Klyuchi, Tynovka and Leonovo, adjacent to the Moscow-Warsaw highway. West of the airborne drop zone along the Vyaz'ma-Kirov railway line, four companies of the Kampfgruppe Haase protected a major crossing on the Ugra River.

For his part, Hitler annulled his generals' plan to withdraw from Moscow with his own order to "Hold at all costs." As a result, every German-occupied village became a strong point. One such place, 50 kilometers southwest of Vyzama, was the Ugra railway station, defended by four companies of Major Alfred Haase's Kampfgruppe. The station was adjacent to the strategically important Ugra River bridge, right in the heart of the drop zone for the Soviet 4th Airborne Corps.

Indeed after serving as a battalion commander, Major Haase became commander of Pionier-Lehr-Bataillon 2 in Munich. With this battalion he was sent to the front as a reserve in Army Group Center in January. Major Haase and his battalion managed to close a gap in the front and resist Russian attacks for four months.

Hello to all :D; something more................

Kampfgruppe Haase - winter 1942.

In this battle, from the 24.02.1942, Kampfgruppe Haase would be fully surrounded by the enemy. However it still managed to repel 12 strong enemy attacks by both day and night, many of these in bitter close combat. In this combat it also managed to launch bold counterthrusts of its own, capturing prisoners whose statements yielded valuable information for the leadership of the 4. Armee.

This action, conducted in the rear of the Armee, succeeded in holding a key point while also preventing the union of two enemy groups coming from different directions. Throughout all these weeks of combat Haase significantly contributed to the success of his unit, and was decorated with the Knight’s Cross in recognition.

For the spirit prevailing in the troops, a radio message is marked with which Major Haase reported on one of the first days of April:
The opponent's offer of surrender was of course rejected with a sneer. Expect the attack as before.
