Hello Tigre!

Unfortunately, I don't have any information on unit/how he died. His full name was Oskar Wilhelm Karl Hans Kuno von Preussen and most websites on German/Prussian geneaology uses Oskar (and not Kuno) as his christian name. He was born on June 12, 1915 and first used the family name of Graf von Ruppin. It was from November 3, 1919 that he was named Prinz von Preussen.

There must be Forum members that know of. and can identify which German units that fought on the Widawka River on September 5, 1939. Some websites names his place of death as Wadowka or Windawka.

Anyhow, good luck with your research.

Tigre,

At that time at the Widawka River the Infanterie Regimenst 33 and 93 (origin from the 13th Inf.Div) were in action in this area and fighting and building a bridgehead there.
The losses were great at both sides and in those days many ranking officers of these regiments were KIA.

It is possible Oskar von Preussen served in one of these Inf.Regiments because he was from a military family of mostly Infanterie officers.

Ritter

Hello to all, in the link below the IR 51's actions in the battle for the Widawka-line, and the death of Prinz Oscar von Preußen are being developed.

http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22412

Now I'm trying to find out some data about Prinz Wilhelm von Preussen

So the inquiries:

Under which unit he served?, Could anyone give me details of his last struggle / engagement (a sketch too if any)? and at last did he fight in Poland?

The Prince Wilhelm began the France Campaign as Oberleutnant d.R. He was seriously wounded in the fights around Valenciennes and died on May 26 1940 at Nivelles in a hospital. Roughly 50.000 persons attended his burial at Sanssouci. After that Hitler forbade the Hohenzollern at the frontline.

Hi,

Oscar Prinz von Preußen died of the 9/5/1939 on the Widawka heights in the machine gun fire near an approx. 10 metre wide ditch. The ground was very marshy that day. He had joined 1-st company of IR51 under Oberleutnant Herrmann with its "Zug". The 1-st company was attacking on the right side with the battalion. At noon after a fire blow of the german artillery the difficult attack was continued in a marsh area. This occurred about 200 metres before the Polish lines at 16.30 o'clock.
Oberleutnant Herrmann made the report about the death of Prinz von Preußen.
