Looking for any info you have on this division in terms of it's employment and locations and Regimental CO's during the war

The 106.Inf.Division was formed on November 22nd, 1940 as a unit of the 12th wave of mobilization from portions of the 6.Inf.Division and units of the replacement army.

This division fought on the Eastern Front it's entire operational career, first in the central sector until the spring of 1942 when it was transfered to France to rest and refit, and from March of 1943 until the end of WWII on the southern sector. In late 1944 the division was destroyed in combat with the Soviets near Kishinev (also listed by some resources as Jassy-Husi). The division took part most notably in the Battle for Kharkov in May 1943, the Battle of Kursk in July and the Dnieper bend Campaign in the fall.

Another 106.Inf.Division was formed in March of 1945 and saw limited action in the southern portion of Germany until being taken by the Allies as a part of the XVIII SS Korps/19.Armee.

Wonderful to see this information!!!!!!

I have been looking out for information on the 106 Inf Div for some time.

I am (very slowly) collecting information on the career of a Major (EKI) and he was Generalstaboffizier 106 Inf.Div. He was with them from 03.10.42 - 01.03.43.
His military record shows:
Stab 106.Inf.Div (1b) (ab 21,09.42).

I would appreciate any further info you are able to share.

Also looking for info on 48inf. 56inf. and 189inf divisions.

Many thanks

Am very interested in your source(s).

Posted on the research forum - I am trying to assemble info on the career of this Major - I have a complete photo record of his career and hope one day to publish a photobiography.

106ID, VII Corps, 6th Army

I've got the return for 1st August 1944. Actually it looks quite strong Personnel at near full strength. It was destroyed in Russian offensive into Rumania commencing 20th August.

Sorry, due to loss of files I am unable to give the sources.
Each book and sources was assigned a unique letter and number combination for simplicity, without that list the letter and number are meaningless.

David

PS - Sorry did not reply earlier.
