Translation

Post by D.Sertl » Wed Nov 14, 2018 3:05 pm

Hello gents,
I would need your help with a Translation.
I am tracking an uncle and one of his postings was to - 4 Gebirgs-Division Frontleitstelle Tschankoje
I would appreciate help if anyone can shed a light. I believe Frontleitstelle was a forward command area. I am having trouble with the translation for Tschankoje. I assue it is somewhere in Southern Russia or Ukraine.
Any help is appreciated.
Best regards
Detlef

Hi Detlef,
A Frontleitstelle = forward directing station for personnel in transit
Concerning Tschankoje (the spelling ???), I didn’t found something but as far as I know the 4. Gebirgs-Division was also in Crimea (and that is located in southern Russia).
Have a look over here:

Kindly regards and sorry for my poor English but’s not my native language.
Prosper

Thanks again Prosper for the information.
Your help is very much appreciated. I realize that the spelling can be a problem, this information is from a record document I had been sent from WASt site years ago. Name and places change over 75 years.
Again thank you.
Regards
Detlef
