305. Infantrie Division in Italy

Post by Martin Schenkel »

Again, I'm searching for a more accurate date as to this division's arrival in Italy. My only reference states that it arrived sometime in "late 1943".

Well, this isn't a whole lot more specific, but Tessin and others relate that it was moved there in August of 1943 after reformation in France.

305.Inf.Div.

Hello Martin!

Maybe you didn´t read my answer to your post on the old forum. Or you didn´t believe it :-)
The 305.Inf.Div. was delayed by italian troops at the border to italy. Hitler ordered 3 Sturmgeschütze to the location to fight the way if necessary. The last entry in the KTB (I looked for) was that it will finally arrive on 3.August in the area Nizza.

Post from the old forum:
2.August 1943: 305.Inf.Div. will arrive in the area Nizza on 3.August.
76.Inf.Div. will arrive in the area Nizza between 3.-7.August.
Gen.Kdo.LXXXVII.A.K. will arrive in the area Nizza 6.-7.August 1943
389.Inf.Div., Sich.Rgt.95 and 5 in the area Marseille between 4.-8.August.
94.Inf.Div. in the area Modena 6.-8.August
tracked elements of SS-"LAH" in Italy between 2.-9.August.

I´ll have a look into my references when I am home from work and maybe I find the final arriving date of the division.

My apologies Christoph.

When re-typing the notes, I must have missed 305. Div!

Thanks again, to both of you.
