Unit name

Hello all,
i am looking for some help on a unit I have stumbled across on a death certificate while researching a book i am writing, the unit is, LEB. ABT.28, 1st battery. I am struggling with mainly the LEB part but a full meaning of the unit would be most helpful. There may be some confusion when the certificate was issued as it was 1946 and issued in England.

If its in german language maybe LEB stands for Lehr- und Ersatz-Bataillon ( Instructional and Remplacement Batallion)

Hello Prosper,

Thanks for the help, it is written in English on the certificate but i believe it is a German abreviation, i have some other information that mentions a training batallion this seems to sugest your replay is correct. I just needed some clarification before entering it into the books text.

As you are speaking of Abt(teilung) 1st Battery then you`re speaking of an artillery unit I think your unit could be leichte Ersatz Beobachtungs-Abteilung 28. See below.................

Thanks for the help most useful every one, I think Raul,s guess is more than that, as the burial is in Leeds UK, this ties in with the unit fighting in Normandy in July 1944 and his death in a Leeds hospital in September 1944, this would explain his burial in the Uk.
