Hi all,
I just found an interesting piece of information on the author Werner Haupt.
He was a Leutnant d.R. with the 1./ Panzerjäger-Abteilung 181 as of 15.6.1944, aged 21 and an R.D.A. as of 1.12.1943.
He was an "Abituriant" in civilian life.
Well, that's it. Nothing fancy.
Just wanted to share this with you.

TESSIN, Georg. 01.09.43 promo to Hptm.(Kr.O.). 01.02.45 Hptm. and Zugführer in 11.(schw.Flugm.Leit-Kp.)/Ln.-Rgt. 232. He held the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse and the Kriegsverdienstkreuz m. Schw. 2. Klasse. Author of Verbände und Truppen der deutschen Wehrmacht und Waffen-SS im Zweiten Weltkrieg 1939-1945, 16+ volumes, Osnabrück: Biblio Verlag, 1965-c.1990.
Georg Tessin was born 16 June 1899 in Rostock and died 18 October 1985 in Koblenz. He received his Ph.D. in 1922 after submitting his dissertation, "Die Geschichte des mecklenburgischen Militärwesens 1648-1718." He was was called up in August 1939 and served in the Flugmeldedienst. Captured by the British at the end of the war in the Hamburg area, he made his way to his family in Schwerin after release. A short time later he was arrested by the Russians and spent the next three years in concentration camps in Neubrandenburg and Frankfurt/O.; in his own words: "A living death with no news from the outside."
His 3-page obituary written by Brün Meyer, his colleague, friend and a long-time archivist at BA-MA Freiburg, can be found in Der Archivar, Jahrgang 39, 1986, Heft 3, pages 405-06, along with a list of the many books he wrote.

11. (schwere Flugmelde-Leit Kompanie)/Ln.-Rgt. 232 was at Ramelsloh, near Winsen-L. (Stellung "Hummel") from 21./Luftnachrichten-Regiment 202; also controlled Fluko Hamburg and Fluko Hoisdorf; 5.45 with 1 Jagdschloss, 2 Freya and 2 Würzburg-Riese radars.
So he spent the last two years of the war very near where he surrendered in May 1945. Ramelsloh is 25 km due south of Hamburg city center.
