Hello to all :D; more follows........................

With the 132 ID in the East, from Poland to Crimea.

The route to Kanew on the Dnieper river, Ukraine August 14, 1941. Bidermann (2000), p. 30-32.

After being re-deployed, the ID 132 was now advancing towards the town of Kanew situated on the river Dnieper. On August 13, 1941, the troops of the division took up position in lines of trenches abandoned by the Soviets, which were about 10 kilometers from the town. The enemy forces were located no more than 300 meters within a small wooded area. To the left lay a pretty little valley of birch and low vegetation (shrubs). Early on the morning of August 14, 1941 two assault guns were attached to the German troops.

At 15:00 hours began mortar fire on the forest occupied by the Russians which lasted about 10 minutes; then advanced infantry but when it was reached a point about 100 meters of the forest area, a tank located in a covered position opened fire from the left, inflicting several casualties to the riflemen companies, before one of the assault guns could destroy it. As the infantry continued its advance, machine guns, mortars and antitank guns shelled the tree line in order to suppress any resistance, especially from snipers located at the top of them. The German attack continued through the forest towards Kanew.

Kodorov, Dnieper river, Ukraine, August 29, 1941. Bidermann (2000), p. 37 to 44.

By the end of August 1941, the Germans were deployed in a thin line along the shore of the Dnieper River, offering excellent opportunities for the Soviets to cross the river and to launch counterattacks. On the night of August 28, 1941, elements belonging to the IR 437 were deployed in the hamlet of Kodorov which was on the riverbank.

In the village there were one anti-tank gun, a company of infantry howitzers (IG) and at least one company of riflemen plus a Platoon. The IG company was deployed on a hill near the farm of tomatoes and had a clear view of the river. About 30 men, including a riflemen Platoon and an anti-tank crew were staying at the village store, located in the center thereof, with the Pak gun still hooked about 20 to 30 mts away. Another fraction was lodged in the eastern sector of the town. The company CP was located in a cottage to the other side of the bridge, perhaps in the east of the tomatoes farm.

Kodorov, Dnieper river, Ukraine, August 29, 1941. Bidermann (2000), p. 37 to 44.

That night a Russian battalion crossed the river and it could infiltrate into the nearby ravines. Just before dawn on August 29, 1941, the Russian Unit launched the assault against the town. A Russian fraction armed with machine guns attacked the store, coming out from the stream's bed. The anti-tank's crew and some infantry soldiers ran to the PAK and managed to repel the attackers with small arms fire and hand grenades. The tank crew unhooked the gun and after deploying it, opened fire with high explosives grenades against the bushes located on the stream bed forcing the hostile forces to retreat. The attack lasted only 10 minutes. The Lieutenant in charge of the infantry platoon was wounded and withdrew towards the store while the Lieutenant who led the anti-tank element took command of the sector. The anti-tank weapon was repositioned on a hill close to the store from which it was improving the observation on the ravine. The Russians also attacked the eastern part of the town but were repulsed.

Kodorov, Dnieper river, Ukraine, August 29, 1941. Bidermann (2000), p. 37 to 44.

In the dim light of the dawn, the crew of the anti-tank gun spotted a Russian heavy machine gun moving up along the hill behind the school. Having consumed all anti-personnel ammunition, they attacked the target high-explosive and piercing grenades, killing or wounding a part of the hostile crew and forcing the rest to find cover. Meanwhile other Russian party which had managed to infiltrate, attacked the anti-tank piece through the bushes but the crew managed to contain the assault; but at about 10:00 hours the gun had fired its last shell. As a result the Russians stormed across the road and set fire to the warehouse. The crew destroyed the gun and retreated under cover of the ravine.

While the Russians were throughout the town, the German heavy guns began shelling the crossing points on the river bank to cut the retreat of the enemy. An infantry company plus the survivors of the Infantry Platoon and the anti-tank crew occupied a readiness area on the west bank of the river and couterattacked from there through the hamlet. By 10:30 hours, the crew had regained their anti-tank gun near the store and the Russians tried to flee across the river. Later it was discovered the Lieutenant Leader of the infantry platoon who was wounded and was last seen in the store, he had been captured and executed on the spot.

With the 132 ID in the East, from Poland to Crimea.

Route to Sevastopol, Crimea, October-November 1941. Bidermann (2000). p. 48-50.

By October of 1941, the 132 ID joined the 50 ID in the Crimea under the Command of the LIV AK within the framework of the 11 AOK. That Army Corps was to pursue the retreating Russians to Bacht-Schisserary and Sebastopol. From October 26 till October 28, 1941, the infantry divisions belonging to the AOK 11 had penetrated through the Isthmus of Perekop after sustaining intense fighting.

The 132 ID marching as OKH reserve should become part of the army. Behind the Tartar ditch lay a new battlefield. The Division along with the 50 ID (LIV AK) had received the following mission: to proceed to Bacht-Schisseraj - Sebastopol in order to prevent that the enemy organize new blocking positions along the route to Sebastopol.

On October 31, 1941, the enemy was in full retreat, followed by motorized detachments while the regiments of infantry and the horse-drawn artillery were behind.

Daily yields were up 50 to 60 kilometers a day. The motorized elements, composed of the anti-tank and reconnaissance units, had reached the Alma valley.

Three large valleys ran eastwards along the middle of the peninsula toward the Black Sea: the Alma, the Katscha and Belbek.

The northern part of the peninsula was a salty steppe, the center was an almost treeless plain, but fertile. On the south lay the Jaila ridge.

November 01, 1941.

Ahead of the division there was not hostile resistance, however the Advanced detachments received artillery fire from the western flank which was open.

Hi all :D; last part .........................

With the ID 132 in the East, from Poland to Crimea.

Road to Sevastopol, Crimea, October-November 1941. Bidermann (2000). p. 48-50.

November 2, 1941.

Parts of the IR 436 and IR 437 suddenly met with strong resistance early in the morning shortly after leaving the town of Chanischkoj. Despite the enemy pressure on the left both units moved towards Adshi-Bulat finding a free path ahead.

With the fall of the night could be detected on the left flank strong enemy concentrations which were disrupted by own (German) artillery. During the night were rejected several attempts by the Soviet marines to break towards Sebastopol along the coastal roads.

On the western flank (open) an enemy coastal battery interfered with the progress of the division, part of the IR 438 was given the task of eliminating the threat by pressing south and south west. A small fraction of assault made contact with a simulated position of the battery, which was actually further south in Nicolajewka. In the evening the detachment was able to penetrate the defensive positions of the battery. During the night the crew of the battery and the survivors of the Red Marines were evacuated by boat and put on Soviet warships. As a result of this action the brave Oberleutnant Diehl and 20 other soldiers of the II. / IR 438 were killed.
