Can someone please explain exactly what a "baukompanie" was ?

I thinks its literally a Company of 'construction' troops. 'Bau' troops had less technical proficiency/skill set then of engineer troops and I would think generally steer clear of combat situations doing more menial tasks (This wold be also reflected in their arms or lack there of). This is off the top of my head so no references handily nearby! Some late war Heerestruppen tables I've seen have frequent citings of batallion size groupings, task specific street (Strasse) or road construction units as well as hybrid Pioneer-Bau units which I'm guessing are a little more trained than a straight 'bau' unit.
