Strength of 10. Panzergrenadier-Division in July 43

Post by Igorn » Sat Aug 22, 2009 10:26 pm

Gents,

I wonder what was the strength of 10. Panzergrenadier-Division in July 43 on the eve of Citadel, especially in regard to vehicles like Marder II and III and artillery. I am also looking for information about the division casualties and Marder losses through July and August of 1943. Is there any info about combat of 10.Panzergrenadier-Division on July 17th 1943?

Thanks a lot!

Panzeralex, thanks a lot for the info. I only wanted to ask you where did you get the info about 54 Marders which according to you 10th Pz Gr, 20th and 25th Div had in August 1943 and how many of them belonged to 10th Pz. Gr. Div? - http://militera.borda.ru/?1-5-0-00000782-000-0-0

You are wrong, I don't write that 54 Marder were in 10, 20 and 25 Pz.Gr.D. in August, but it was assumed a number at the beginning of July and maybe I'm wrong and not all of these Sfl were Marder, my info (on militera forum) were taken from Dr. Leo Niehorster's book: German World War II Organizational Series, volume 5, part I Mechanized Army Divisions, 04.07.43 Milton Keynes, UK: The Military Press, 2006., according this book at the beginning of July
in 10 Pz.Gren.div. were 39 - 7.5 cm Pak Sfl (38(t)),
in 20 Pz.Gren.Div. were 6 - 7, 62 cm Pak Sfl (Pz II)
in 25 Pz.Gren.Div. were 10 - 7.5 cm Pak Sfl (Pz II)

Also I have some documents A.O.K. 9 and Pz.A.O.K. 2.

best regards
Panzeralex

Then you should write clearer. I referred to your statement "К тому же из таблицы выпали 10, 20, и 25 панцергернадерские дивизии, имевшие в своем составе 54 Мардера. " Anyway thanks for information.

Hello Igorn !

After the very detailed informations from Panzeralex, maybe I can give you some additional
informations not covered yet, mainly from the divisions' history by August Schmidt :

On the Pz.Jäg.Abt. 10 :
It received 39 Pak auf Sfl. in April/May 1943. (sorry, no more details of which type are given :( !)
At the same time, the Abt. received also 12 2cm Flak auf Sfl. as 4th company.

Art.Rgt. 10 :
In I. u. II. Abt.: all 6 Batteries equipped with only 3 le.FH. 10,5cm (mot) each.

III.(s.) Abt.: 3 10cm Kan.(mot) in 7. Btr. and 3 s.FH. 15cm (mot) in each of 8. and 9. Btr.

Additionally attached (at least during the fighting for Ponyri, to which the 10th PzGrenDiv
was committed from late 10th of July onwards) :
4 (Heeres-?)Art.Abt (no further info given, )
1 schw. Gr.W.Batl.
1 Sturmgeschützabt.
and Werfer-Regiment 53 :
I.Abt (3 Btr. 15 cm Werfer), II.Abt (2 Btr. 15 cm Werfer), III. Abt. (2 Btr. 21 cm werfer)

According to the fighting on July, 17th :
>> On the night from 16. to 17. Gren.Rgt. 41 and Pz.AA. 110 were withdrawn from the front south of Orel and rolling north
through the town during the 17th, in the direction of Bolchow. On their march, they were attacked again and again by enemy airplanes.

The very day, Gren.Rgt. 20 had to withstand a very hard fight south of Archangelskoje. It was attacked by strong russian infantry forces,
supported by 40 tanks. Some tanks overrun the battle-worn regiment. They were destroyed in the hinterland. Enemy infantry, that broke
into the positions of the regiment, was driven back in close combat, after beeing separated from their tanks.

On the night from July, 18th to 19th, Gren.Rgt. 20, was also withdrawn from the Ponyri-front, rolling north through Orel to see more heavy fighting.

On July, 17th, 3 very heavy bombing attacks by about 200 russian planes struck the rearward area. In the course of the 3rd attack, that hit the
divisons command post, the Befehlswagen (command car ?!) of the Ia and the Fliegerfunkstelle were destroyed and a number of other
radio stations were damaged. <<

Then starts the next chapter with a detailed description of the heavy fighting in the Bolchow - Brjansk area from July, 18th onward. Are you
looking for infos on a particular place or incident on the 17th of July ? Then I could check the book again, if I know what to look for  .

Anyway, I hope this helps a little bit :D .

Best regards,

hero.
