From what I can find out, the forming of the original 270 ID was stopped shortly after it had commenced due to the end of the 1940 Western Campaign so it may well be the case that no commanding officer was assigned to the unit, and it may well of been no more than a 'paper unit' until the divisional number was re-issued later in the war. While 4 of the 5 sources below mention the intended forming of the division in 1940 (Sources Number 1,2,3 & 4), the three that list Divisional CO's (Sources Number 1,4 & 5) do not have any listed for the 1940 period, only the second version of the division.
