Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

From May 30 till June 01 of 1940, the 3 Pz remained at rest to the west of the Channel of La Basèe; the PR 5 took advantage of those days in order to repair and to maintain the material and the battle vehicles.

Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug (Fall Rot)...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

05 of Jun of 1940.

In this day began the second phase of the Campaign of France for the 3 Pz, still being part of the 6 AOK, with the attack towards the Weygand Line due south of Peronne. After the artillery barrage, executed by 384 guns, and aerial attacks carried out by the Luftwaffe, the attack jumped off at 05:30 hours. Through an intense enemy artillery fire the PR 5 together with the PR 6 reached the environs of Hallu, about 30 kilometers due southwest of Peronne. The riflemen were delayed while clearing the towns and fortifications reason why at noon the 3 Pz Brigade paused in the middle of the opponent’s forces. The PR 6 lost about 30 tanks only that day. During the night from 05 to 06 of June of 1940, the 3 Pz Brigade rejected strong French counterattacks.

Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug (Fall Rot)...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

06 of Jun of 1940.

On June 06 of 1940, the mechanized riflemen surpassed the tanks and penetrated through the French positions; the Weygand Line had been broken. By this action Oberst Kühn received the Knight’s Cross. With high temperatures and under a sky without clouds, the 3 Pz continued the pursuit of the opponent southwards on the Avre.

07 till 09 of June of 1940.

From 07 till 09 of June of 1940, the attack continued successfully towards Roye. Soon the 3 Pz Brig withdrew from the front and then it fell back towards Peronne. Here the troops of the 3 Pz enjoyed two days of rest. The 3 Pz was assembled and together with the XVI AK (Mot) marched in the direction of St. Quentin - Soissons towards the right flank of the 9 AOK of General der Infanterie Strauss.

Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug (Fall Rot)...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

13 of June of 1940.

On June 13 of 1940 the PR 5 captured intact a bridge on the stream Petit Morin due south of Montmirail. The tanks continued the attack towards the Seine River. The PR 5 reinforced with the II. /SR 3 and as the main effort launched the attack against Nogent. The resistance of the French strongpoint was quickly broken. During the night from 13 till 14 of June of 1940, the II. /PR 5 (Major Ritter Edler v. Peter) with support of riflemen and engineers managed to take Nogent and the bridge on the Seine, having captured numerous prisoners.

14 of June of 1940.

Towards noon the exploration departed from the bridgehead heading southwards. The XVI AK (Mot) which was by now behind the French front followed the pursuit. At dusk of that very day the Battle Group of Oberst Kühn (here was the PR 5) sighted an interminable column of fugitives and it was also verified that there was considerable resistance still in St. Florentín.

During the night from 14 to 15 of June of 1940 it was organized a kampfgruppe on the basis of the I./PR 5 (Maj Holmann) reinforced with elements of SR 3 having as its mission: to capture St. Florentin, which did so, taking also a deposit of 6 million liters of fuel.

Paris was taken!!

Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug (Fall Rot)...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

23 of June of 1940.

The next task of the 3 Pz was the on June 23 of 1940, when it marched towards Grenoble to protect the left flank of the XVI AK (Mot) and to establish liaison with the Italian Army. The Division marched in the morning with two Battle Groups; one by the north and another one by the south, to this last one belonged the PR 5. The French established blocking positions reinforced with antitank and machine guns nests and support of artillery. On June 23 in the evening the Kampfgruppe South arrived in front of Voreppe. The vanguard of the PR 5 received artillery fire when reaching the Channel of the Isere. Oberst Kühn ordered to advance of the SR 3 but the attack was called off when the Unit suffered several casualties due to the hostile fire unleashed upon it.

Hello to all :D; the Westfeldzug (Fall Rot)...................

With the 3 Pz in France 1940.

24 of June of 1940.

On June 24 the attack of kampfgruppe Kühn did not progress either. The North kampfgruppe arrived under an intense rain at Les Echelles. At dusk on that very day, the 3 Pz called off the attack in view of the negotiation of one armistice in order to avoid more losses. Shortly after the XVI AK (Mot) communicated that the armistice would be effective on June 25 of 1940 at 01:35 hours. The 3 Pz kept watching on the enemy and buried the last killed in action of the unit.
