Hello to all :D; more follows (29º part)......

The XXXXVIII Pz Korps' Raid.

Bridgehead Ostrog threatens. Everything comes to a hold (30,6.).

In the early morning the Qu.Abt followed the leading Ops HQ of the Corps on the north road towards Dubno. Also even in the afternoon the 16 Pz could not progress substantially, because its tank regiment was not fully operational due to the heavy night operations. It was only on Jul 01 and after softening barrages of the entire artillery when it was able and working at full capacity in order to accomplish the destruction of the tank enemy force located southwest of Dubno.

The 16 ID (mot.) was still in the night into the area located southeastward of Wierchow. Also the order issued by the Pz Group stating that the 11 Pz should get across the Horyn River this very day and then to proceed on Schepetowka under all circumstances was impracticable and should be shifted for the next day.

Hello to all :D; here goes something more dealing with the seizure of the bridge at Brodow by the 11 Pz. It was taken from Signal...............

We should take that bridge – Brodow 1941.

Image

'The Russian railroad Przemysl-Lemberg-Kijef crosses the river Goryn near Brodow, 15 km north of Ostrog. Our tank unit received orders to get this bridge undamaged and to create a bridgehead. The Russians know what is coming; as soon as we advance, a Russian reconnaissance plane appears to report our action.

Immediately the enemy starts firing. The infantry is positioned on the vehicles, and the enemy tries to disrupt our advance. When the enemy attacks, our frontal units warn us by firing flares. While our anti-aircraft artillery fires at tanks over a distance of 2 kilometres, our tanks make a flanking move and attack the Russian tanks.'

Image

'He thinks for all of us. Our commander makes notations on his map in order to assault the bridge. He gives orders via the microphone on his chest. The tank gunner is calm, and gives me the chance to take a picture of the observer and the gunner who is adjusting the firing range.'

Image

Image

'On the second day, our tanks advance over the railroad towards the bridge near Brodow. The infantry assaults the Russian positions, which are shelled by our artillery, tanks and anti-aircraft artillery. Under protection of the artillery, our infantry can prevent the Russians from blowing up the bridge. Together with the infantry, engineers have reached the bridge and cut the cables leading to the explosives. I take a picture of one of these soldiers, who have done a great job.'

Image

'In front of the saved bridge: comrades who escaped death. During the last fights one tank was surrounded by enemy infantry, but we could relieve them in time. While enjoying a cigarette, they tell their story. Meanwhile the bridge is already in use, and the first tanks advance further into Russia.'

Hello to all :D; here goes something more dealing with the 11 Pz. It was taken from Signal...............

Gunfight at Polonnoje.

Image

Just in front of the railroad Polonnoje-Novo Miropol, we saw a Sovjet tank 200 meters ahead of us which apparently didn't see us. While our first tank prepared for a fight, I took the camera and start making pictures.

Image

The first tank opened fire, and after three shots the enemy tank started to burn.

Image

Hit! Our tanks moved forwards slowly and two armed comrades went to the motionless enemy.

Image

With raised hands the solely survivor came towards us.

Image

When examining the Soviet tank, it became clear that our first shot already immobilized the enemy tank.

Yes, great work as usual Raúl !

I don't know for sure as I've not seen a photo of him before, but I suspect the man with the headphones and map in second photo on this page is OTL Gustav-Adolf Riebel, Kdr. Pz.Rgt.15.

Best, Jerry
