Feldgendarmerie Abteilung in France?

Post by m star »

Hi, I hope someone will be able to help me with this:

I need the unit designation of a Feldgendarmerie Abteilung (military police battalion) that served in France during its occupation.

Many thanks in advance!

There was one Feldgendarmerie by French Department but not an Abteilung only a Trupp e.g.
N° 979 in Châteauroux
N° 653 in Montluçon
etc...I assume there were too Provost Units with the Divisions of the Wehrmacht

That looks like a very useful website. Unfortunately, I don't speak German. Can someone tell me if I've interpretted this correctly?

Feldgendarmerie-Abt. 541
Aufgestellt 16.8.1939 durch WK IV im Armeepaket D = Dresden mit Hilfe der Ordnungspolizei zu 3 Kpen
Einsatz: 1939 Korück 540 (10. Armee); 1940 Frankreich, 1941 Südrußland (6. Armee, mit Teilen in Stalingrad), 1944 Italien, bei Kriegsende Heeresgruppe C / 14.Armee

Feldgendarmerie Abt. 541 was formed in 1939 in Dresden. It served in France in 1940, in Russia in 1941, and in Italy in 1944. Is that correct? And is there any other important information in that description?
