Florian Geyar 8th SS Cavalry Division

Post by Kelvin »

Anyone have information or interest on this first Waffen SS Cavalry Division 8th SS Florian Geyer. Some people ignored this elite unit. Does anyone know its manpower strength or how many horses it possess ? Any comment on its war experience.

Nominally 13 000 men.
8. SS's soldiers 'earned in blood' 22 Ritterkreuze (Knight's Crosses), but I also wouldn't call it an elite unit.
Don't worry, be crazy ;]

Hello Kelvin!

Don't hesitate to use the search enginge here on the Feldgrau Forum, or for that matter on other WWII forums. Here's an older thread on the subject in which fellow member Jan-Hendrik has compiled a large amount of links concerning Hermann Fegelein and so consequently also the "Florian Geyer" Division...

Depends on the definition of "elite". It is ranked high among the divisions involved in attrocities.
