Luftlandeübung Freudenthal 1938 - Fifth Column.

During the occupation of the Sudetenland, there was a one time use of a "Fifth Column": at one of the planned landing sites, poplars were found, which narrower the available space, the trees were cut down and thrown into a small ditch. These measures were organized by the German Abwehr and carried out with the support of the local ethnic Germanic population (Freikorps) and landowners.

The 7. Fliegerdivision (Air Division), which according to the original plan, had been temporarily organized only for the operation against Czechoslovakia, remained once the Sudeten occupation had been completed.
