Good day, Mr Niehorster
A further inquiry regarding the Mapping Detachment.
Would you happen to know how many men would be included with this? How many would be cartographers? Did this fluctuate during the war, or was the detachment relatively consistent?
Thank you in advance!
Take care and good luck

I am interested in this as well, since this is what I did during my time in the US MarinesJason Petho wrote:Good day, Mr Niehorster

Well, to start with, it wasn't a large unit. Just noticed, the 2076 organization shown previously (above) is for a different date.
Divisonskartenstelle (mot)
KStN 2076 dated 01.02.1941
1 Detachment Leader (Leutenant).
1 NCO - cartographer (Kartenzeichner).
2 EM - cartographers (Kartenzeichner).
2 EM - cartographic printers. (Kartendrucker) for Opalograph.
2 EM - drivers (Kraftwagenfahrer).
1 light personnel carrier/map transport vehicle.
1 light bus converted to office use.
A change to the KStN indicates that the position of Detachment Leader is cancelled, and apparently the divisional headquarters Ia Mess staff officer is to hold both positions. The unit was assigned to the division headquarters for admin, mess, & supply. Personnel were transported for the most part by vehicles of the divisional motor pool.
KStN was replaced by 2076n, dated 1.11.43, which had an additional (3rd) enlisted cartographer. As vehicles it was authorized two 4.5-ton vans and a trailer with a generator on it. Personnel still depended on division for admin, mess, supply, and transport.
There was also a corps mapping detachment with 18 men, and an army detachment with 61 men. And then there were the survey and cartographic battalions.
All divisional, corps, and army cartographic units, as well as the cartographic battalions were motorized.
Cheers
