Hello Luca!!!

Post by John W. Howard »

Hello Luca:
My father fought with the US 36th Texas Division in WWII. There are many places in Italy where the 36th veteran might have picked up the helmet: the 36th landed at Salerno and worked itself up the boot of Italy. It fought around Cassino and was added to the Anzio beach-head for the breakout. After that the 36th participated in the landings in southern France on August 15, 1944, fighting northeast into Alsace and Germany. I wish you good luck with your enquiries. If I am able to help further, please let me know. Best wishes.

Hello Again Luca!!!!

Hi Luca:
Try this website: http://www.lexikonderwehrmacht.de Look for Gliederung, Truppenteile, Einheiten der Heeres. Press it, then look for Artillerie; you will find a listing of Heereskusten Artillerie Regimenter and Abteilungen. If you are not able to find your answer there, try posting another question; someone will have a copy of Tessin and try to help you. Best wishes Luca.

Old thread, but this helmet was no doubt picked up in southern France during operation Dragoon. Heeres-Küstenartillerie-Regiment 1291 was defending the coast there. I would be interested to see photos of this helmet.
