No of men in FlaK, Artillery& Panzerjager Battalions

Post by David W »

Circa 1941/2 how many men would have been in a FlaK Battalion?
how many men would have been in an artillery Battalion?
how many men would have been in a Panzerjager Battalion?
Would this number have varied much if the Battalions were equipped with self propelled vehicles instead of motorised?

Hello David - :D

Can you estimate the numbers by using Christoph's information set out here for artillerie and panzerjager (under panzertruppen):

http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/

Just a thought on my part.

Best regards, as always -

Hello Shadow.

Thanks for the link.

The answer is possibly! I think I will have to leave it until another time when I can devote my entire concentration upon it as I find it a very difficult site to navigate & translate.

Bye for now. Dave.

3 officials
145 NCOs
475 enlisted men

Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment with:
56 officers
11 officials
349 NCOs
1055 enlisted men

Panzer-Artillerie-Batallion (Self-Propelled) with 12 Wespe and 6 Hummels:
17 officers
3 officials
129 NCOs
365 enlisted men

Panzer-Artillerie-Batallion (towed) with 8 15cm guns and 4 10cm guns:
17 officers
3 officials
109 NCOs
344 enlisted men

Panzer-Artillerie-Batallion (towed) with 12 10.5cm guns:
15 officers
3 officials
89 NCOs
265 enlisted men

Heeres Flak Artillerie-Abteilung with 6 2cm guns (selfpropelled) and 3 2cm Flak Quad and 9 3.7cm Flak towed and 12 8.8cm Flak towed:

Thanks Ron.

If it can safely be applied to '41/'42 then it is very helpful.

Cheers Dave.

No I do not. A 41/42 Panzer Division would have a quite different TO&E than a 44 Panzer Division. One example, no Hummels or Wespe in a 41/42 Panzer Division since they weren't even in production yet. Another example are two different KStNs for a Stabsbatterie in the same year. Go to the Artillerie KStN section at this website;

http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/

583 Stabsbatterie einer Artillerieabteilung (Sfl.) 16.1.1943
583 Stabsbatterie einer Artillerieabteilung (Sf) 1.11.1943

Thanks Mike.

That still leaves my original question unanswered though.

I'll share what info I've got, and see if it will promote some discussion that will lead to the truth!

Mot Panzerjaeger: roughly 13 men/gun.
Lt FlaK: roughly 13 men/gun.
Gem Flak: ??
Artillerie: anything between 580 & 1,390!

None of this info comes from actual T.O&E or Kstn. So it may be hopelessly inaccurate. Mind you, some Kstn were hopelessly inaccurate compared to actual T.O.&E!!!

David,

Here is some 1941/1942 data that should give you the information you seek. I have also added some later information that addresses your question about towed equipment versus self-propelled equipment.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,,
