other WWII fora you would recommend

Post by Der Untermensch »

I have recently received a few suggestions (ranging from “just bugger off” to “this place is rubbish, join me at...”) to pack my stuff any fly away. I might consider a go, but first I would be happy to learn what the best destination is.

Are there any other WWII-related fora you would recommend?

I liked http://www.axishistory.com very much.

Slightly less lively but also very well contributed seems to be http://www.historyforums.com .

The http://www.battlefield.ru is a bit too much alive for me (quality varies, almost no moderation at all).

Fora like http://www.wwiiforums.net or http://www.onwar.com or http://discussions.playnet.com are a bit lazy (but still alive and kicking compared to, say, http://www.warlinks.com/webboard.html huge potential indeed).

Quite niche-oriented fora would be fine, provided they are in English ( http://www.worldwar2.ro ) German ( http://www.geschichtsforum.de/forumdisplay.php?f=68 ), Russian ( http://www.maxistuudio.fie.ee/ap/forum ) or Italian ( http://www.freeforumzone.com/viewforum.aspx?f=34862 ) – but not Swedish please ( http://www.krigsforum.se - a pity; seems to be a very lively place). Aha, I will be happy to try with any Slavic-language forum, if you recommend any (like http://www.drugawojnaswiatowa.org/forum )

Hey. When I joined the forum this year I went to the memberlist and went to almost everyone that had a site. There are quite a few good sites out there.

Biggest Lithuanian site devoted to WWII

Post by Gaga »

Hello, if you feel curious, visit our site - the biggest in Lithuania - http://www.antraspasaulinis.net

The site is in Lithuanian, but we also have a section in forum for english- speaking members.
Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?

I remember Vera Lynn quite well, Gaga. In fact, when decorated American war veteran and critically-acclaimed author William Manchester was feted for his Churchill bios' in Tulsa, Oklahoma in January 2001, I enjoyed the privilege of sitting alongside this great man while a CD played Ms. Lynn's "We'll Meet Again" and "White Cliffs of Dover."

Here's another site some of you may find interesting: try http://www.wk2.info. You might also simply type in "Karl Pech" in order to get there. A good many very interesting bios' here--look especially to the bio featuring the life and death of Heinrich Ochssner. His widow, Frau Ochssner, is the living embodiment of what every fighting man would want in a woman.

thanks Gents, have checked all of them...

... and my linguistic skills permitting, even have tried to contribute to some. The Lithuanian one is featuring a great Christmas pic now, by the way.

Unfortunately, a few of the suggested fora seem to be gone, either to Walhalla or just for a small rest (panzer-archiv.marcof.de ist nicht verfügbar, Karl Pech is offline).

So maybe it is time to bow to my longing and show up in the Feldgrau barracks again.

That's a big collecting forum, quite a few people from Feldgrau, like me, Mark C Yerger, Panzermahn, Annelie, herr, and even vets like haen, gerhard and arminius. But that forum has a stupid porn section I think, and that scared off haen a week or 2 ago. Haen on that forum, made something like 400 posts. That stupid Administator, keeping that stupid section.

For the Dutchmen among us: http://www.waffen-ss.nl or even better: http://www.cmc40-45.nl. One of the best forums in (mainly) Dutch I've seen. You do have to pay to join in. But it's really worth it. I've joined a 'Treffen' of the CMC, I liked it a lot. A pity HaEn wasn't there  :D. And ofcourse, it's possible to post in English.
Always in need for info about: Dutchmen in the NSKK, HJ and TeNo.

This forum is new but has a lot of promise and you will see a lot of familiar names from Feldgrau, AHF, WAF etc.
