Hi Jaywol,

Encircled in the pocket was at first KG Gruner (composed from elements of Inf.Rgt.429/168.Inf.Div. and probably some other smaller units) it was later joined by KG Soltmann from 23.Pz.Div., composed from II./Pz.Rgt.201 and I.(SPW)/Pz.Gren.Rgt.128.

Hi Lorenz! Lorenz, I just worked a double shift, with no computer access. Let me get my facts straight, and I'll get back to you. Now, I wonder if, as admin, I can insert these articles? Probably not, but I wonder... Good. I'll be interested in your findings. Let's see if I can help you at least in ...

Hello George, This officer's background has been puzzling me ever since I saw it in one of those Munin's Bildbands over a decade ago, until a year or so ago - that is when the two distinguished Italian authors came out with the new Karstjäger book. Yes, they identified him as Weiland. The mystery so...

Because it wasn't an armoured formation? :? Sorry, I seem to have missread your point. Overall performance between 1939 and 1945. The invasion in France, the Balkan campaign, then all the way to Moscow, non-stop action in the East (Rzhev, Zitadelle and along the Dnjepr), even in 1944 and 1945, with...

Hi Timo, That is exactly my opinion JH! By all standards 2. Panzer-Division (Heer) was the best German armored formation of WW2, closely followed by several other Heeres divisions. Well, time to play opposite roles. To use your lines - about which standards are you talking about? Which divisional hi...

One more follow-up question. Was there any link between Gefechtsverband Sigel and the unit stationed on the airport Zirklach/Cerklje (Was this III./SG155?)? None that I know of, Marko, except that they both provided tactical air support to the anti-partisan operations being run in Slovenia at the t...

Thank you very much, Lorenz. The info comes from Jürg Gschwendtner's Deutsche Anti-Partisanenkreigführung. Gegenoffensive deutscher Verbände in Slowenien und Zentralkroatien September bis November 1943. Published by the Allgemeine Schweizerische Militärzeitschrift in 1986. This is basically a tiny b...

5. Gebirgs-Div. was under XXVI. AK/AOK 18 during October, and the only SS division, SS-Polizei-Div., was under LIV. AK/AOK 18 during October. These two Armeekorps were not along the Volkhov front. To determine where specifically these two divisions were during the month, you will need some detailed...
