Re: GESTAPO OR SD OPERATIONS IN SWEDEN 1943
My uncle made a wartime trip to Sweden but I think it was in 44 or 45. I remember him saying that there were two customs lines one for his crew and one for German speakers. I also remember him saying by that point in time the Swedes had split the hotels and restaurants in Stockholm into two groups. ...

Re: GESTAPO OR SD OPERATIONS IN SWEDEN 1943
Far from an expert here but I thought the Gestapo was internal security. I would expect most if not all efforts in Sweden to fall under Abwehr purview

Re: Submarine "bow shot" as depicted in "Run Silent, Run Deep"
I've always seen it depicted (at least in US usage) as bit of a desperation move. In that regard the shot was usually taken at short range with the target (often an escort) headed directly at the sub. While the bow on profile is much smaller than the head on one the close range and limited change in...

Re: Sturmgeschutz: were the Germans right?
I think I'd prefer the 105mm armed version of the Sherman to a Stug if I were actually using them. Always liked the looks of the Stug though. Overall the Sherman would be easier to support as well at least in a force equipped with Shermans for their main battle tank. Stug may have been the "rig...

Re: Major Liebegott--German POW in America
Interesting question. If you don't get an answer here you might want to try posting on either the axis history forum or the wwII history forum. There's a lot of overlap but enough people who don't that you will sometimes get answers one place you won't at others. I do remember my mother (she turned ...

Re: Axis Naval presence in the Aegean.
I think I remember seeing a book at least partially on this topic. Unfortunately I don't remember the title or author. Will keep an eye out for it though. Either of these may be the one I was thinking of: https://smile.amazon.com/Wine-Dark-Blood-Red-Sea-1941-1946/dp/0275965716/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&...

Re: Allied strategic bombing - An overlooked success?
The fighter lines look like they are for fighters based in Britain only. If not I would expect to see some more east-west lines for fighters based in Italy.

Re: Operation Sealion; Third Reich Victorious
Hello lwd :D; I do not know the right name in English for that pushers but in fact they are the same like tugs, but pushing the barges rather than towed from them. So they would be pusher tugs (right?). Cheers. Raúl M 8). That makes sense. I just haven't seen the terminology used. Not sure if there...

Re: Operation Sealion; Third Reich Victorious
Interesting. B has a ratio of 3:1 barges to tugs, C and D it's 2:1, and E has no tugs. Wonder what the numbers of powered to unpowered barges was. I notice D has a 1:1 ratio of pusher boats to barges (any idea what they were?) and no fishing boats. Coasters are small cargo ships, right?

Re: Geheime Feldpolzei + German military meteorology
There are a couple of extensive threads over on the axis history forum concerning the railroads in the East. Lots of good data in them. Some of the German weather data collection efforts in the Atlantic area are documented on the web and the data from these would have been of some use in predicting ...
