Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
You may notice that Herr Heder still has a vivid memory of his commitment during the WWII. However, I am bothered by the fact that he wants to send me 58 Euros for my book ! Of course, this book was a gift.

Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
's letter.jpg I received a letter from Eberhard Heder this morning. Here is a copy of it. One of his remarks concerns the 5.SS-Panzerdivision "Wiking" command structure I published in "Dictionnaire de la Waffen-SS" (volume 1). He writes that he succeeded SS-Stubaf. Braune as com...

Re: Totenkopf by Trang
Hi Ost !
Thanks a lot ! I had identified Dr Knapp correctly but it was too late, far too late because it was only last year ... I saw more photos of him recently. Concerning Röder, it is really fantastic ! Could you give me his address in a personal message ?

Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
Yes John, you are probably right. The title is inadequate but it is now too late to change it for the last volumes of the series.

Re: Waffen-SS
So I suppose the typist made an error because the SS-Verfügungsdivision, the SS-Totenkopf-Division and the SS-Polizei-Division did not exist in 1938 ! I guess this document should have been created in December 1939. As John P. Moore wrote it in a previous post, errors are frequently met among the nu...

Waffen-SS
It is generally admitted that the name "Waffen-SS" was systematically used from March 1940. I found this document, dated from December 1938 which clearly sets the different units within this organization. t=0]0507.jpg[/attachment]

3.Kriegsjunkerlehrgang in Bad Tölz
This is a very special Lehrgang as its members have not yet been in combat before. There are a good number of well-known names among them (or at least for WSS enthusiasts).

Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
I must tell that George Lepre was very helpful for the chapter relative to the Handschar Division. In the next volume, the chapter concerning the 14th SS Division is illustrated with pictures coming from Mike Melnyk's collection. Current means of communications present many drawbacks but it could no...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
Waffen-SS Dictionnaire volume 2 is now available. I am pretty satisfied about the pictorial content as there are lots of never before published photos from the Hohenstaufen and Frundsberg divisions, all of them very spectacular with StuG's, panzers and men in camo. Of particular interest is a series...

Re: “Panzer Grenadier der 5.SS-Panzerdivision ‘Wiking’ im Bild”
I had the notion that Fritz Darges was sent back to the Eastern front when he made a good joke to Hitler but the latter really had no sense of humour : as a fly was constantly disturbing the Führer during a conference, Hitler asked Darges, his WSS Adjutant, to eliminate that nuisance. Darges replied...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Charles Trang
I am sorry : I ignore the means by which you could order my books in the USA. I know Casemate and RZM Publishing are importers of Editions Heimdal but I do not know if "Dictionnaire de la Waffen-SS, volume 1" is available through them by now. Maybe you should contact RZM via their website....

Re: Hells Gate
I am sorry : though I checked twice the whole Adolf Salie's album (which contains nearly 400 photos), I could not find the famous - but blurred - photo showing the Gniloj Tikitsch's crossing. Maybe it was a photo he provided to Willi Hein but that he did not take himself. This could explain its abse...

Re: Hells Gate
If the book was to be edited again, then better prints could be available. I can get good scans from the Adolf Salie's collection (which is now in my possession) thanks to a much improved scanner. Of course, if Remy wanted to make a new edition of "Hell's gate", I would provide these scans...

Re: Hells Gate
Adolf Salie was not a Kriegsberichter but a NCO within SS-Nachr.Abt. "Wiking". I suppose Doug Nash could not print his photos in greater size because the original ones are very small indeed !
